Carwyn Jones consults on new advisory body for the hills and uplands of Wales

National Assembly for Wales

People have been invited to give their views on the remit and membership of a new body to advise on issues relating to agriculture, the environment and rural development in the hills and uplands of Wales. Assembly Minister for Environment, Planning and the Countryside Carwyn Jones announced the start of the consultation and encouraged people to come forward and submit their views.

Mr Jones said, "The Hill Farming Advisory Sub Committee for Wales has been in abeyance for some time and I am keen to establish a new body to advise me on issues of concern to those who live, and make a living, in the hills and uplands of Wales.

"The body, which I hope will be up and running in the autumn, will play a crucial role in advising the Welsh Assembly on matters such as the future operation of Tir Mynydd. The consultation paper proposes that it should be non-statutory and that its membership and remit will go wider than the original Sub Committee which comprised only farmer members. The eight week consultation exercise will close on 15 March 2004."
