New Trust farm welcomes visitors
The Wildlife Trusts
Local people are being welcomed next week to visit and get involved in
a new community venture at Bourton-on-the-Water in the north Cotswolds.
Greystones Farm has become a new nature reserve having been acquired by
Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust last year. As well as being a sustainable
farming showcase the aim is to provide a focus facility for community
activities. Project staff are now inviting people to visit the farm and
see what's in store for local people in the future and have organised
a week long 'Introducing Greystones' programme of activities from Monday
26th January to Saturday 31st January.
The first and last day of the week will be consultation days and open
to anyone who wants to find out more about the Trust's plans and contribute
their own views as to what plans should include. Tuesday to Friday will
be more practical based providing opportunities for volunteers to help
with a number of conservation and clean up jobs.
Conservation manager at the Trust, Rosie Cliffe outlines what the consultation
days will be about. "We are really interested to know what local
people think about our plans and to make sure we are on the right track
in providing what will be a very important recreational asset for everyone
to enjoy on the doorstep of Bourton. There will be displays on view in
the farm barn and also a wipe board for people to stick up their own ideas.
We can then point people in the right direction for a pleasant walk around
the farm if they wish." Consultation times will be 2 to 4 pm
on Monday 26th and 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday 31st.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for people to volunteer to
get their hands dirty between 10 am and 4 pm Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th.
"Anyone who has some time to spare can come along, we provide
all the necessary equipment and instructions.¨ explains Sarah
Mason, volunteers manager. "There are all sorts of jobs to do
from planting trees to counting old tyres to painting and gate repairs.
You can come for just part of a day or all day - we guarantee some fun
in-between the hard work!"
If you want to influence what you would like to see at Greystones Farm
and how you would like it used in the future, the Trust would
love to see or hear from you. If you can't get down to the
Farm next week, visit their website which has further details
about the farm and the work of the Trust: www.gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk
where you can email your comments.
All visitors to Greystones Farm during the Introduction Week will be
invited to be amongst the first to sign a special visitors book and enter
a free prize draw to win a pack of Wildlife Trust goodies.
There are no parking facilities for the general public at the farm. Visitors
are requested to walk to the Farm via Greystones Lane. Should visitors
be coming from further afield there is a Pay and Display car park on Station
Road (opposite Greystones Lane). Disabled parking available upon request.
